Does Your Insurance Protect You in this Situation?
You are sitting in traffic - BAM!
Your car jolts and you realize you were just hit from behind.
You get out to exchange information with the other driver.
The other driver doesn't have insurance.
Most clients I speak with who get hit by an uninsured driver have their own insurance.
The only problem is they have no idea what coverage they actually have on their own policy.
It physically pains me when I speak to clients who think they have "full coverage", only to find out they aren't really protected.
UM/UIM Coverage and PIP Coverage Can Help Protect You!
UM / UIM Coverage
Insurance companies offer what is called UM / UIM coverage - Uninsured Motorist / Under-Insured Motorist coverage.
This coverage will protect you if you are ever hit by someone who doesn't have insurance!
UM / UIM coverage is available for 1) your car and 2) bodily injury.
*These are usually two separate coverage options! If you want to be fully protected, be sure to opt in for both.
UM / UIM coverage will only protect you if the accident is not your fault.
Additionally, you can get PIP coverage - Personal Injury Protection. PIP coverage will protect you regardless of who caused the accident.
This means that if you get hurt driving into a ditch, PIP will pay for your medical bills.

Know What is On Your Policy
It is always good to know what coverage you have. If you aren't sure, call your insurance agent and ask.
Calling your agent only takes a few minutes. Having UM / UIM coverage or PIP coverage can make a HUGE difference if you ever get hit by an uninsured driver.
